Growing up, the easiest way to learn about African American heroes was through the limited knowledge obtained from our history books in schools. Over the years, there have been more and more books about people of color coming out in the market. Luckily, there are a variety of options for young children.
As we continue with virtual learning and teaching, and with Black History Month approaching, I thought it would be suitable to share with you all a list of books about people of color. My now 6-month-old baby has inspired this list being that he too is African American. I also created this list with the hopes that I will one day be able to share and read some of these books with him.
Here are three books that I believe would be great inspiration for young children during this Black History Month:

I also love the idea of uplifting our young minds and these two coloring books for boys and girls do a great job of doing that. Providing young boys and girls with images that represent them as well as including uplifting and positive affirmations and messages.
Also, here is a quick video of my current selection of books influenced by diversity and people of color.
Some books are reasonably priced, while some you may be able to read for a low cost or free with your prime membership. Be sure to check out my forever growing reading list inspired by people of color/diversity, lifestyle, learning, and more here.
Representation matters and It is also very important for everyone to learn about different cultures and to read books with BIPOC characters. Comment down below a few of you and your child's favorite BIPOC books to read.
