Work Towards a NEW YOU!!
It's a new year, so I figured why not write about reflecting on your goals. Towards the beginning of the year is usually when people write out their goals, create vision boards/ mood boards, and think about what they want to accomplish throughout the year. As months go by, life gets in the way and we start to shift our attention elsewhere and lose sight of our goals. If you are like me, then when things happen, you may tend to lose focus, get discouraged, and go through this endless cycle of writing, re-writing, planning, and re-thinking your goals and desires.
However, I decided that this year would be different. I committed to myself to stay focused and determined. Even when things get tough, I decided that I would stay true to dreams and do my best to encourage and uplift myself along the way.
Here are some of the things that I did to help me along the way:
Create a Vision Board (Not sure how to create one? Check out this post by OprahMag here.)
Create an Action Plan / Strategy Plan for your goals. I Re-arrange my personal/ business workbook on google-sheets. You can do this as well - be sure to set your intentions and realistic deadlines for your goals. You can include step by step action plan of how you plan to execute your goals whether that be each day, week, and/or month.
Brought a 2021 planner - In previous years, I would have brought a planner that has a calendar, goal log pages, and weekly task sections where you can input what needs to be done for that week as well as what you want to complete during the following week - whether that includes working out or reading 10 pages a day of your favorite book. The planner also includes a monthly reflection pages where you can reflect on the previous month and notes pages for taking notes or even journaling. For each month there is also a page that contains a quote to inspire and encourage you for the month ahead.
This year though, I've decided to get a planner that is actually an appointment book. I was a little skeptical at first, but then I instantly fell in love with the fact I have been to plan each day thoroughly and create an ideal schedule.
Google Calendar - This item is not completely necessary or needed but I am a little extra and I like the fact that I can share the calendar not only on my computer but my phone as well. With this, I am able to track goals, reminders, and events on my phone and computer when I am not able to or around my 2021 planner.
Journal: I’ve always like to journal and keep an affirmation jar. Although I would journal every now and then since the beginning of the year, I recently decided to become more committed to it. Especially after reading She Means Business, by Carrie Green in which she encourages her readers to journal about their entrepreneurial adventure - I began to add this to my journal process. I actually had brought an extra journal last year which I decided to use to document my adventure, prayers, daily reflections, and thoughts.
Insire Yourself by
- Surrounding yourself by like-minded people to encourage you along the way.
- Reading Books (My current favorite is The Concious Language: The Logos of Now by Robert Tennyson Stevens.) Be Sure to check out a few of my other book recommendations while you are at it.
- Listen to Podcasts
- Watch Motivational Videos
For Example: Warren Buffet's Goal Setting 5/25 Rule , video on Youtube, encourages you to create a list of 25 things you would like accomplish with the first 5 things being your main focus. This is a great video for those that need help with goal setting- and hopefully it helps you narrow your focus on certain goals.
I did all of these things this year with the hopes that I can stay on the right track. I personally think that it is never too late to do any of the items listed above. In fact, I actually recommend it. We still have a few months left in this year, so why not take advantage of it? I am sure you all have heard this before, but I promise there is so much that can get done if you just put in the work. So imagine what you can get done now.
You may be on the right track and are already doing these things. If so, great! Keep doing them and pushing for greatness. Review your goals and check that vision board girl! There is no harm in that! I am a big fan of mini-vision boards or even digital ones that you can save to your phone/computer and set as your screen saver.
If you haven’t already, get a journal or planner, or one that you can actually do both. I use to just get a notebook and divide each page into sections. The front would be divided into sections such as Task, School courses (when I was back in school), personal, and other. On the other side, I would use as my journal/ reflection page. Doing this definitely helped me stay organized and on the right track.
All of these tips are things that I have tried and have helped me. But in the end, always remember that you got this, it is never too late to get things started, and you have all the time in the world so don’t give up.
xo,
Brittiana
